The British Peninsular Infantry Centre Companies represent the regular core of British line infantry from the Peninsular campaigns. This plastic set contains 52 figures with stovepipe shakos, along with command options for officers, ensigns, sergeants, and drummers. It is suitable for British battalions of the Napoleonic Wars and particularly complements armies for the Peninsular War.

Background & context

Ein britisches Bataillon der napoleonischen Zeit bestand aus zehn Kompanien: acht Centre Companies plus eine Grenadier- und eine Leichte Kompanie an den Flügeln. Die acht in der Mitte waren die Masse, die in Linie stand, feuerte und hielt - unspektakulär und genau deshalb entscheidend. Auf der Iberischen Halbinsel machte Wellington daraus sein Markenzeichen: zwei Glieder tief, Salve auf kurze Distanz, dann das Bajonett. Der Stovepipe-Tschako verortet die Figuren in den Jahren davor.

On the tabletop

With 52 redcoats in stovepipe shakos you form the centre of a British battalion in the Peninsula. There Wellington's infantry stood two ranks deep, fired volleys at short range and then went in with the bayonet. That is how you handle them on the table: in line behind a wall or a rise until the enemy column is close enough. Officers in bicornes, ensigns, NCOs and drummers form the command group.
