Background & context

British battalions had ten companies: two flank companies of grenadiers and light infantry, and between them eight Centre Companies that provided most of the firing line. In Highland regiments such as the 42nd Black Watch, the 79th Cameron or the 92nd Gordon these companies wore kilt and feather bonnet, and every battalion took its own pipers into the field. In Spain and at Quatre Bras in 1815 they stood right at the front.

On the tabletop

The centre companies are the main body of a Highland battalion, the men in the firing line. From the sixty figures you put together advancing companies for the attack and standing, loading or kneeling men for the volley. With four each of officers, ensigns, drummers, NCOs and pipers, the box covers several command groups. Place them in the centre of your line, with regiments such as the Black Watch in Spain or at Quatre Bras.
