Background & context

Nach der Katastrophe an der Monongahela 1755 war klar, dass europäischer Drill im nordamerikanischen Wald nichts taugte. Thomas Gage stellte daraufhin das 80th Light Armed Foot auf, das erste reguläre leichte Regiment der britischen Armee. George Howe brachte den Truppen am Lake George bei, Röcke zu kürzen, Hutkrempen abzuschneiden und Läufe zu bräunen. Aus dieser Notlösung wurde eine Waffengattung, die bis in die Napoleonischen Kriege Bestand hatte.

On the tabletop

After the defeat on the Monongahela in 1755 the British raised regular light infantry in North America for the first time, with shortened coats and cut-down hat brims. In Black Powder you use the eight metal figures as skirmishers ahead of your line or to secure woodland edges and flanks. They keep up where closed lines no longer work among the trees. From these troops grew a branch of service that lasted into the Napoleonic Wars.
