Background & context

Between 1877 and 1885 the British Army fought almost without a break on the fringes of the Empire: in Afghanistan against the Amir and tribal levies, in the Sudan against the Mahdists, in Burma against the Kingdom of Ava. Everywhere a small, well-armed professional army met a vastly more numerous enemy, and everywhere everything hung on discipline, ammunition and water. At Abu Klea a square broke open briefly, and that was enough for headlines all the way to London.

On the tabletop

With these 36 multi-part figures you can field British infantry of the colonial wars between 1877 and 1885, whether in Afghanistan, the Sudan or Burma. Because the parts combine freely, hardly two men look alike. In games the unit forms a small, disciplined line or a square that meets a far more numerous enemy with fire before he can close. Afghan tribesmen or the Mahdi's Ansar make fitting opponents.
