Description

The guard cavalry of the British Army, twelve strong and at full gallop. From the same sprues you build the blue-uniformed Royal Horse Guards or the red-coated 1st and 2nd Life Guards.

Background & context

The Household Cavalry was the British king's mounted bodyguard and recruited with corresponding self-assurance. At Waterloo it rode in Lord Edward Somerset's Household Brigade against d'Erlon's corps and threw back the French horsemen, but paid for the success with losses from which the brigade did not recover that day. Before that it had already served in the Iberian Peninsula and covered the retreat at Quatre Bras.

On the tabletop

The twelve troopers of the Household Cavalry charge at the gallop, led by an officer and a trumpeter. In blue you build the Royal Horse Guards, in red the 1st or 2nd Life Guards. As heavy Guard cavalry you save them for the attack meant to settle the matter, because like Lord Somerset's brigade at Waterloo they pay for success with heavy losses. Before that they served in the Peninsula and covered the withdrawal from Quatre Bras.
