This box builds a squadron of the Household Cavalry: twelve plastic troopers, plus an officer in metal and a separate bugler's arm. Can be built as Horse Guards or as one of the two Life Guards regiments.

Background & context

The 1st Cavalry Brigade, known in everyday usage simply as the Household Cavalry, was regarded as the finest cavalry in Great Britain and had seen hardly any action in the Peninsular War. On 18 June 1815 the 1st and 2nd Life Guards, the blue-coated Horse Guards and the King's Dragoon Guards made up for that: they checked French infantry columns and then rode down the cuirassiers accompanying them. The brigade itself took one of only two French eagles captured that day.

On the tabletop

This box lets you field a unit of the British Household Cavalry for Waterloo, built either as the Horse Guards or as one of the two Life Guards regiments. Twelve plastic heavy cavalrymen form the unit, completed by a metal officer and a metal bugler arm. In Black Powder you keep this heavy cavalry ready behind your own line and lead it into a closed charge. At Waterloo the brigade blunted French infantry attacks and then drove back the cuirassiers accompanying them.
