Hintergrund & Einordnung

The water-cooled Vickers machine gun was one of the most reliable sustained-fire weapons of World War II and had already seen service in World War I. British and Commonwealth forces used it in almost all theaters of war - from North Africa to Italy and Northwestern Europe. Well-trained crews could provide sustained and accurate covering fire, which significantly restricted enemy movements. The crew's winter equipment suggests its use in the harsh climatic conditions of the 1944/45 campaigns in Northwestern Europe.
