Background & context

During the night leading into 24 March 1945, British and Canadian formations crossed the Rhine at Wesel in Operation Plunder, accompanied by the largest airborne landing of the war on a single day. Before that lay the months in the Reichswald and on the Lower Rhine, where rain, mud and snow made every movement a slog. Engineers with flamethrowers cleared bunkers and houses, and Fireflies covered the advances. Six weeks later the war in Europe was over.

On the tabletop

Among the 42 infantry are two engineer sections with flamethrower, which you send against occupied houses and bunkers; from the remaining figures you build the HQ and the regular sections. The two MG teams and the mortar team fire from the second line, and the 25-pounder howitzer stands further back as light artillery. With its long gun, the Sherman Firefly Vc is your answer to heavy German tanks, and you build the Humber as a Mk II or Mk IV and send it ahead as a scout. That gives you a Late War platoon with two vehicles and its own artillery for the winter on the Western Front.
