    Background & context

    Their maroon berets earned the British paratroopers their German nickname: the Red Devils. Dropped from Dakotas or landed in Horsa gliders, they fought lightly armed and mostly without heavy equipment, yet had a reputation for being almost impossible to shift from a position. Their hardest battle was Arnhem, where the 1st Airborne Division waited nine days for a relief that never arrived. The Polish 1st Independent Parachute Brigade jumped at Driel in the same operation.

    On the tabletop

    The Germans called the British paratroopers Red Devils after their maroon berets. In Bolt Action the 30 figures build British or Polish airborne troops, the Poles recognisable by their larger grey berets. Lee-Enfield and Sten form the rifle sections, the Bren adds firepower at range and the PIAT deals with vehicles. Battles to fight include the Merville battery, Pegasus Bridge, Arnhem and the crossing of the Rhine.
