Product details

Background & context

The 8th Army was less a British army than a Commonwealth one. Indian battalions, New Zealand engineers, South African gunners and Scottish Highlanders could lie side by side in the same division, with different languages, kitchens and headgear. That is exactly why figures for this force look so varied: the turban next to the tropical helmet, the Glengarry next to the steel helmet. The army took the nickname Desert Rats from the 7th Armoured Division, whose badge showed a jerboa.

On the tabletop

From 1941 the 8th Army fought in North Africa against the Italians and the Afrika Korps, later in Tunisia and Italy. Its men came from across the Commonwealth, so this 30-man platoon includes Sikh, Punjabi, Yusufzai and Scottish Highlander heads. Lee-Enfields and Thompsons form your Bolt Action rifle sections, and the Bren gives them firepower at range. The Boys anti-tank rifle handles light vehicles, while the 2-inch mortar fires in an arc over cover.
