Product details

Background & context

The Frontier Light Horse was raised in 1877 as a paid volunteer unit on the Eastern Cape, and Major Redvers Buller took command in 1878. Its troopers were mostly colonists who knew the country and rode well. In March 1879 they fought at Hlobane and the following day at Kambula, and in July at Ulundi. Three of its men received the Victoria Cross, more than any other colonial regiment in the war.

On the tabletop

As irregular colonial horse, these riders belong out in front of your main line. In Black Powder Epic Battles you use them to scout the ground, find the horns of an approaching impi and draw warriors into an attack before they reach your infantry. Just as Buller's men goaded the Zulu into a premature attack at Kambula, they throw the enemy off balance and then fall back behind the line.
