    Product details

    Background & context

The 1st King's Dragoon Guards were among the regiments sent to South Africa after the defeat at Isandlwana. Landing at Durban in April 1879, they first guarded the lines of communication, scouted and escorted convoys. At Ulundi one squadron joined the pursuit. At the end of August a detachment of the regiment under Major Marter caught the fugitive King Cetshwayo, which brought organised Zulu resistance to an end.

    On the tabletop

Dragoons give your British side in Black Powder Epic Battles a mounted force for several jobs. Use them to guard supply lines and camps, escort wagon trains or, in a campaign scenario, ride down a retreating enemy. In open battle they join the final charge once the Zulu fall back from the square, just as a squadron of the King's Dragoon Guards did at Ulundi.
