Product details

Background & context

Lord Chelmsford invaded Zululand in January 1879 with several columns, each under its own commander. Colonel Pearson led the coastal column, fought his way through at Inyezane and was then shut up in Eshowe for more than two months. Evelyn Wood held the northern position at Kambula. In the camp at Isandlwana Lieutenant Colonel Pulleine was in charge until Colonel Durnford arrived with his men on the morning of 22 January, and both died that same day.

On the tabletop

In Black Powder Epic Battles every brigade relies on its commander to pass on orders and keep the units moving. With two riders you can lead two brigades or put a general in overall command next to a brigadier. For Isandlwana they play Durnford and Pulleine, for the coastal campaign Pearson and for Kambula Evelyn Wood. Placed on their own bases behind the line, they stay easy to pick out during the fighting.
