    Background & context

    1879 marschierte Britannien in Zululand ein und kassierte bei Isandlwana eine der schmerzhaftesten Niederlagen seiner Kolonialkriege. Die Antwort darauf waren geschlossene Schützenreihen: Martini-Henry-Salven aus dichter Linie zerrissen eine anstürmende Impi auf offenem Feld, solange die Flanken hielten. Das Natal Native Contingent wurde vor allem aus Basuto und Mpondo rekrutiert, die die Zulu-Taktik aus eigener Erfahrung kannten und als Späher, Flankenschutz und Vorhut vor der Hauptlinie liefen.

    On the tabletop

    Line redcoats and the Natal Native Contingent form the British side of the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 in Black Powder. Twelve bases of each are included. The infantry stands in a closed line and stops a charging impi with Martini-Henry volleys as long as its flanks hold. Recruited mainly from the Basuto, the Contingent knew Zulu tactics from experience and scouts and guards the flanks ahead of your line.
