Product details

Background & context

The 17th Lancers began as a regiment of light dragoons raised in 1759 and carried the lance from 1822. Their badge, a death's head with the motto Or Glory, earned them the name Death or Glory Boys, and in 1854 they rode with the Light Brigade at Balaclava. After Isandlwana they were sent to Natal in 1879 as reinforcements. At Ulundi on 4 July they burst out of the British square and drove the Zulu from the field.

On the tabletop

The lancers are the shock troops of your British force in the Zulu War. In Black Powder Epic Battles you keep them back behind the infantry until a Zulu attack has broken against the line or the square, then send them in pursuit. Meanwhile the Natal horsemen from the Cavalry Brigade handle the scouting, and the Lancers stay ready for the decisive counterstroke.
