Background & context

Die Royal Artillery trennte zwischen Horse Artillery, die mit der Kavallerie ritt, und der Foot Artillery, deren Mannschaften zu Fuß neben den schwereren Geschützen marschierten. Auf der Iberischen Halbinsel standen britische Batterien meist zwischen den Infanteriebrigaden und schossen mit Vollkugel und Shrapnel in die anrückenden französischen Kolonnen. Wellington hielt die Zahl seiner Geschütze klein, setzte sie aber konsequent dort ein, wo der Hauptstoß zu erwarten war.

On the tabletop

On the Iberian Peninsula the British foot artillery usually stood between the infantry brigades, and that is exactly where these three guns belong in 13.5 mm Black Powder games. Before the battle you emplace them at a favourable spot with a clear field of fire. From there you engage French columns while they are still approaching and support your redcoats in attack and defence alike. The foot artillery mostly served 9- or 6-pounders.
