Background & context

Great Britain fought the war in America at the end of a supply line across the Atlantic, and every man and every cartridge came by ship. The battalions were small but hard-drilled, and after the setbacks of Lexington and Bunker Hill they adapted: wider intervals in the line, more responsibility for the company officers, grenadier and light companies drawn together into units of their own. In the field the parade uniform disappeared, hats were cut down and coats shortened.

On the tabletop

For the American War of Independence the box holds 24 musketeers with command group and six light infantrymen in plastic. In Black Powder the musketeers stand in line with heavy firepower and seek to close with the bayonet, while the light infantry skirmishes ahead of them. Two officers, a drummer, a sergeant and two ensigns lead the regiment, and twelve full-colour flags are included. Their opponents are the Continental Army and the colonial militia.
