    Background & context

    Robert Rogers stellte ab 1755 am Lake George Kompanien auf, die aus Siedlern und Jägern bestanden und fürs Aufklären und Überfallen bezahlt wurden. Seine niedergeschriebenen Regeln des Ranging - verteilt marschieren, nie denselben Weg zurück, vor Tagesanbruch wachen - lasen sich wie ein Handbuch des Kleinkriegs und wurden später von vielen Armeen übernommen. Im Winter zogen seine Trupps auf Schneeschuhen, im Sommer in Booten und Kanus über die Seenkette Richtung Kanada.

    On the tabletop

    In summer, Robert Rogers' ranger companies travelled by boat and canoe along the chain of lakes towards Canada to scout and raid. Two metal rangers in a resin canoe put exactly these journeys on your table. In Black Powder you use them for scenarios with river crossings or raids far ahead of your own line, and on land they fight as skirmishers. A fitting opponent is French Marine troops, who also travelled by canoe.
