Product details

Background & context

Zouave units were modeled after French colonial troops and were instantly recognizable by their distinctive uniforms. In the American Civil War, Union states in particular raised numerous Zouave regiments, while there were fewer comparable formations on the Confederate side. Despite their light infantry image, many Zouaves were employed in the field as ordinary line infantry. Their uniforms were often an expression of esprit de corps and volunteer tradition.

On the tabletop

The 24 Zouaves with command group can be fielded for the Union or the Confederacy in Black Powder, with flags for both sides included. Many Zouave regiments began as light skirmishing infantry and some later became ordinary line troops, and you can represent either role with this unit. They saw themselves as an elite and often earned a matching reputation. The MDF snake fence included gives you a first piece of suitable cover.
