    Description

The same sculpting as the Union box ACW 115, just mixed differently: 38 men firing, loading and running, each on a 20 mm round base of his own. With these you build a skirmish detachment rather than a line.

    • Head options with forage cap or broad-brimmed hat (plastic)
    • Individual 20 mm round bases (plastic)

    Product details

    Background & context

In front of every line of battle ran a thin chain of riflemen, firing at wide intervals and from cover. Their job was to feel for the enemy, push back his own skirmishers and keep the main line unobserved for as long as possible. In the Civil War this duty grew with the range of the rifled musket: towards the end of the war whole regiments lay in open order instead of in two ranks. The modern firefight begins at this point.

    On the tabletop

The 38 Union soldiers fire, load and move in open order, each on his own 20 mm round base. They form the skirmish line that finds the enemy ahead of the main battle line and pushes back his skirmishers. In smaller actions where individual figures count, they also make a force of their own. Together with box ACW 115, sculpted from the same masters, you can field a regiment with a formed line and skirmishers out in front.
