Product details

Background & context

The sack coat was the working dress of the Northern army: a plain blue blouse, cheap to make, comfortable on the march and to be seen in almost every regiment from 1862. With it went the forage cap, whose peak tipped forward, or the broad-brimmed hat of the western armies. A regiment generally pushed one or two companies forward as skirmishers while the rest followed in two ranks. That is exactly the split you get in this box.

On the tabletop

This box provides a Union regiment in sack coats: up to 30 men form the battle line, four command figures lead it and six skirmishers go ahead. You build the line advancing with shouldered muskets or charging. The forage cap gives you the typical Northern headgear, while the slouch hat suits regiments of the western armies. Loading arms let individual figures reload in the line, and NCOs and buglers get arms of their own.
