Background & context

During the American Civil War, infantry regiments often advanced into battle in ordered lines or columns. Advancing under fire was particularly dangerous, as rifled muskets and artillery had a longer range. Command groups, flags, and drummers helped maintain formation and orientation in the gunpowder smoke. Such poses are particularly suited for attacks, changes of position, and bringing up fresh lines.

On the tabletop

With rifles at the shoulder this regiment advances, just as Civil War infantry had to cross the dangerous ground to its own firing position. Depending on how you paint them, the 24 resin figures with command group become a Union or Confederate regiment, and flag sheets for both sides are included. In Black Powder you use it for the attack, for example the fast charges of the Southern troops. Together with the regiment in firing poses you can show both phases of an engagement.
