Background & context

Confederate infantry took the field in short jackets rather than long coats because cloth was scarce and the depots in the South cut differently. From 1862 this became the typical sight in the armies from Northern Virginia to the western theatre. What a man wore depended on his depot, his plunder and his luck on the march, which is why even elite units looked thrown together. It made no difference to their fighting: these regiments kept the war going for four years.

On the tabletop

The 44 Confederates build a regiment in short jackets, the dress that defined the Southern armies from 1862. The separate arms show the men marching with shouldered muskets or charging, and you can mix caps and slouch hats as you like. With eight flags and the unit bases you can represent several regiments. In games the unit attacks in close order or holds a position, supported by artillery of the same side.
