This American Civil War artillery battery contains three guns, each with a four-man crew. Interchangeable barrel variants allow for different gun types, complemented by MDF snake fence terrain and a cap badge decal sheet.

Background & context

Artillery batteries were crucial in the American Civil War for support, counter-battery fire, and breaking up enemy attacks. Smoothbore cannons like the Napoleon remained important for their canister shot effectiveness at close range. Rifled cannons like Parrott and Ordnance rifles improved range and accuracy. Batteries were often deployed on high ground, along roads, or behind infantry lines.

On the tabletop

This box lets you build a Black Powder battery of three guns with four gunners each, for either the Union or the Confederacy. The ten barrels decide its role: smoothbore 12-pdr Napoleons and 6-pdrs fire canister at attacking troops at close range, while rifled 10-pdr Parrotts and 3-inch Ordnance rifles hit targets at long range. The 12-pdr howitzer fires in an arc over cover. MDF snake fences and cap badge decals are included.
