Product details

Background & context

The 8.8 cm Flak was designed as an anti-aircraft gun, and it owes its second career simply to muzzle velocity: what hits an aircraft at great height goes through any Allied armour at two kilometres. In North Africa the Wehrmacht placed the guns behind folds in the ground and let British tank attacks run onto them, and at Halfaya that cost an entire attacking wave. For the crew it was a test of nerve: the gun stood tall, was hard to hide and had no gun shield.

On the tabletop

In desert games the 8.8 cm Flak 37 sits behind folds in the ground and engages British tanks at long range, even the heavily armoured Matilda II. In Bolt Action you use the 88 mm Flak 36 entry: a super-heavy anti-tank gun on a rotating platform that can also fire as a medium howitzer. Seven Afrika Korps figures crew the plastic gun, which can be elevated. An Sd.Kfz 7 can tow it to a new position.
