Product details

Background & context

On the North-West Frontier, cavalry was not a matter of prestige but of distance. Anyone who thought in day's marches lost; anyone who was mounted could raid a post and be a hundred kilometres away by evening. Regular Afghan squadrons and tribal horsemen differed less in tactics than in equipment. British columns did not fear open battle; they feared the riders who moved alongside, waiting for the moment the order of march broke.

On the tabletop

With this box you field twelve Afghan horsemen, regular squadron or tribal riders, for the fighting on the North-West Frontier. The weapons set the decade between the 1830s and the 1920s in which they ride. In games they strike quickly at an outpost, a column or a flank and withdraw into the terrain before the enemy can react. Together with Afghan foot warriors they make a mobile force against British-Indian troops.
