Background & context

The 95th Rifles were an elite British light infantry unit during the Napoleonic Wars. Unlike the classic red-coated line infantry, they wore dark green uniforms and were armed with the Baker Rifle. Warlord describes them as experienced troops from the Peninsular War and Waterloo, whose reliable soldiers were highlighted as Chosen Men. Their role particularly involved mobile combat, targeted fire, and supporting the line infantry.

On the tabletop

With the rifled Baker rifle the 95th Rifles hit single targets at ranges a smoothbore musket cannot reach. In Black Powder you place the 14 metal figures as skirmishers ahead of your British line, where they do their work from a distance. The long sword bayonet makes up for the short weapon in close combat. For the Peninsular campaigns and Waterloo they belong to the battalions Wellington could rely on, and a dog for the camp is included.
