    Product details

    Background & context

Ferdinand Porsche designed the Kübelwagen as a military derivative of the Volkswagen; the name comes from the bucket seats that were bolted into the doorless cars. An air-cooled flat-four worked away in the rear and there was no four-wheel drive, but low weight, generous ground clearance and a limited-slip differential gave it astonishing cross-country ability. By the end of the war 50,435 had been built. What the Jeep and GAZ-67 were for the Allies, the Typ 82 was for the Wehrmacht.

    On the tabletop

For the Wehrmacht the Kübelwagen was what the Jeep was for the Allies: a light car for staff officers, dispatch runs and observers. With the desert tyres it belongs to the Afrika Korps, with the second set of tyres to any front in Europe. You choose windscreen, headlights and open doors during assembly, and the driver gets one of two heads. With the separately available conversion set it becomes a radio car that you can use as a command post or objective.
