    Background & context

    The GAZ-AA was the Ford Model AA, built in Gorky under American licence and barely altered for years. It was simple enough for drivers to get it running again at the roadside with the on-board tools, and that is exactly what made it the backbone of Soviet logistics. In the winter of 1941/42 columns of these lorries rolled across the ice of Lake Ladoga and kept besieged Leningrad alive. The three-axle GAZ-AAA carried more and served as the chassis for ambulances, workshops, anti-aircraft platforms and the BA-6 and BA-10 armoured cars.

    On the tabletop

    The GAZ is the standard Soviet truck, which you build either as the two-axle GAZ-AA or as the three-axle GAZ-AAA. For your Red Army it carries infantry, ammunition and rations forward, or forms the convoy in a supply scenario, for example on the ice of Lake Ladoga in the winter of 1941/42. Sides and tailgate can be open or closed, the tarpaulin is optional, and a driver is included. With the separately available conversion set it carries a quadruple Maxim against low-flying aircraft.
