    Background & context

    The Opel Blitz with its three-tonne payload was the workhorse of the Wehrmacht: around 70,000 of the two-wheel-drive version left the factories between 1937 and 1944. The same chassis carried ambulances, radio and telephone vehicles, fire engines, fuel tankers and workshop bodies. Even so, the German army was motorised only at its spearhead, and most of its supplies went on rolling in horse-drawn wagons. It served in North Africa as well as in the Russian mud, which regularly showed it its limits.

    On the tabletop

    The Opel Blitz is the German three-tonner that carried ammunition, fuel, rations and soldiers to every front from 1937 to 1944. With the benches fitted it transports a squad on the table; without them it serves as a supply truck or as the target in a convoy scenario. The tarpaulin is removable and the rear can be built open or closed. Standard or blackout headlights, a searchlight, spare wheel, jerrycans and a driver and passenger complete the kit.
