Background & context

By the winter of 1942/43 Stalingrad was a city of rubble. After months of fighting and air raids, many houses and factories were reduced to outer walls, where both sides faced each other at close quarters. With the Soviet encirclement in November 1942 and the German surrender in early February 1943, the battle ended in deep winter.

On the tabletop

Set in the middle of the table as an objective, the ruin draws both sides in, because whoever holds it has cover and a view of the ground around it. Several winter ruins side by side form a snowbound town centre that your troops have to clear bit by bit. Keep open spaces between the buildings that can only be crossed under fire. The Ambush markers add extra uncertainty for your opponent.
