Background & context

In the winter of 1941/42 the Wehrmacht and the Red Army fought in front of Moscow in temperatures far below freezing. Villages and farmsteads became key objectives, because only their buildings offered shelter from the cold. When retreating, both sides burned villages to deny the enemy that shelter, leaving ruins and chimneys standing in the snow.

On the tabletop

With the Ambush markers from the pack you can set a trap in the snow: the ruin becomes a possible strongpoint, and enemy tanks have to reckon with anti-tank weapons in the rubble. That slows any push along the village street. A squad behind the walls can hold the position and cover a withdrawal. For Eastern Front winter games, place the ruin at the edge of a snowy village where the road leads into open country.
