Background & context

In mid-December 1944 Germany opened the Ardennes Offensive, its last major attack in the West. In snow, fog and frost the armies fought over villages and crossroads in Belgium and Luxembourg, which offered warmth and cover and controlled the roads westward. Towns such as St. Vith were badly destroyed in the fighting.

On the tabletop

On a winter table the ruin fits fighting in the Ardennes or on the Eastern Front. Your infantry can shelter behind the snowy walls while the open snowfield in front offers little protection. Place the piece so that an advance across open ground either starts or ends there. Add bare trees and snowfields and a convincing winter scene comes together quickly.
