Background & context

By summer 1944 many towns and villages in Normandy had been reduced to rubble by air raids and artillery, and much of Caen was destroyed. Ruins made strong positions for defenders, since broken walls and cellars gave protection and debris blocked the streets. Attackers had to clear them house by house, often with tanks and engineers in close support.

On the tabletop

Put the ruin where your infantry has to cross open ground and they get a sheltered stop halfway. A squad can take cover behind the remaining walls and watch the street in front. How you turn the piece decides which lines of sight stay open and which are blocked. On any table set in wartime Europe it fits a village as well as a town.
