Description

Whitewashed walls give Iwan's House its character. It is low and wide, 18.5 cm long but only 10 cm tall, and comes UV-printed in colour with a removable roof, an interior and acrylic windows.

Background & context

In Ukraine and southern Russia, farmhouses were often built of clay over a timber frame, and the walls were regularly coated with white lime. The whitewash protected the clay from rain and kept the rooms cool in summer. The war passed over these villages twice: in 1941 with the German advance and in 1943 with the Soviet counter-offensive after Kursk towards the Dnieper.

On the tabletop

With a footprint of 18.5 x 15.5 cm, the house gives a whole infantry squad plenty of room inside. Lift the roof to place or move figures, then set it back. You fix the doors during the build, open for a lived-in village in summer, closed for an abandoned one. The white walls add a bright note among darker timber buildings, and the house suits battles in Ukraine in particular.
