    Background & context

    After collectivisation around 1930, most farms in the Soviet Union belonged to collective farms that kept grain, hay and equipment in large shared barns. They were usually built of timber and roofed with boards or straw. When the front swept through the villages in 1941, both sides used the barns as shelter, storage and fighting positions. Wood and hay caught fire easily, so after the fighting often only charred beams remained.

    On the tabletop

    Take off the roof, place a full infantry squad inside and the farm building becomes a strongpoint on the village outskirts. You decide during assembly whether the doors stand open or closed. At 11.4 cm tall it hides whatever is moving up behind it across open ground. It fits any battle on the Eastern Front from 1941 onwards.
