Product details

Background & context

Brick tenements filled the centre of Stalingrad, and after the bombing many were reduced to outer walls and stairwells. The best-known example is Pavlov's House on what was then 9 January Square: a small Soviet group held it from late September 1942 for about two months against repeated German attacks. Buildings like this served as strongpoints, observation posts and rallying points all at once.

On the tabletop

The back section covers the courtyard side of a block, where counter-attacks often approach out of view. Spread your riflemen over the three floors so they watch the yard and side alleys at the same time. With the interiors left open, you can shift squads from floor to floor during the game. On its own it stands as a free-standing ruin; with the separately available Apartment Block Front it becomes a closed building.
