Background & context

Low walls of field or rubble stone lined front gardens, orchards and lanes in Norman villages. Unlike the tall hedgerow banks of the bocage, they gave little concealment but did protect riflemen lying behind them. In the summer of 1944 such walls became jumping-off points for attacks on the next farm or the last line before the edge of a village.

On the tabletop

At only 2 cm tall the wall leaves the view open, yet infantry taking position behind it is in hard cover. With more than 150 cm of length you can run whole property boundaries, roadsides or garden rows across the table. Open or close the gate during play to free or block a passage. This gives you a line where an attack in Normandy 1944 can stall.
