A high Norman wall with gate, modular in design and 80 cm long in total. At 4.5 cm tall it hides infantry completely, and the gate can be opened and closed during the game.

Background & context

In Normandy, masonry walls enclosed manor farms, gardens, churchyards and town plots, often head-high and built from rubble stone. In 1944 they were ready-made positions for defenders, who knocked firing slits into the stonework and secured the gates. Attackers blew their own gaps or had tanks push the walls down rather than charge through the open entrances.

On the tabletop

Run the wall around a yard or garden and you have an enclosed defensive position. Vehicles behind it get hard cover, while infantry stays fully hidden. With the gate, which you open or close during play, you decide who gets in and out. Because the sections are modular, you lay out the line to suit the buildings on your table. It fits town and village games in Normandy 1944 alike.
