    Product details

    Background & context

Many town houses in and around Caen were built from pale limestone, quarried in the region since the Middle Ages and shipped as Caen stone as far as England. Tall houses with several storeys gave defenders in 1944 observation posts over the streets and the fields at the edge of town. For exactly that reason they often came under deliberate fire from artillery and tanks.

    On the tabletop

At 23 cm the house rises above many buildings in a street, so an observer or sniper on the top floor can see a long way. The whole squad fits inside once you lift off the levels and spread the figures across the floors. Shutters and doors are fixed open or closed during assembly. The compact footprint also fits into narrow lanes. It becomes the lookout over a Normandy town in 1944.
