Description

A Norman restaurant over three levels, UV-printed in full colour. The levels and the ruined ground floor are removable, the interiors are printed in colour, and clear acrylic panes sit in the windows.

Background & context

In the small towns of Normandy, restaurants, cafés and inns usually stood on the main street or the market square, often with flats on the upper floors. After the landings in June 1944 the fighting passed through places such as Carentan and Villers-Bocage, where houses at crossroads mattered to both sides. Whoever held the upper floors there controlled the roads into town.

On the tabletop

A whole infantry squad fits across the three levels of the restaurant. Lift off the floors and place your models straight onto the ground floor or the storeys above. From the upper windows you keep an eye on the street and the square in front. The doors are built open or closed during assembly. In Normandy 1944, put it at the centre of a contested small town.
