Product details

Background & context

Even before the war, Normandy was a stronghold of dairy farming, with Normandy cattle grazing in the pastures between the hedgerows. In 1944 sheds and barns offered shelter from Allied air superiority, and German units parked vehicles inside to hide them from fighter-bombers. Livestock suffered badly in the fighting, and dead cows in the fields are among the most common memories soldiers had of Normandy.

On the tabletop

The interior without an intermediate floor holds several infantry squads, and the long outer wall gives cover to a vehicle parked alongside. Place the shed on the edge of a farmyard so that it shields the flank facing the fields. At 13.5 cm long it draws a continuous sight barrier across the table. Combined with the farmhouse, stone wall and homestead of the same range, you can build a complete Normandy farm.
