    The Type 87 Kommandeurswagen was developed as a military derivative of the civilian VW Beetle and the Schwimmwagen, specifically designed for leadership tasks within the Wehrmacht. Thanks to all-wheel drive, off-road tires, and increased ground clearance, it was significantly more capable off-road than its civilian counterpart. The extended sunroof and robust running boards made it a practical liaison vehicle for officers and staff on all theaters of war.
