Product details

Background & context

The Type 87 was created from two components that already existed: the body of the civilian Beetle and the four-wheel-drive chassis of the Schwimmwagen. That made it the rare staff car that offered weather protection and cross-country ability at once, as the widely used Kübelwagen could manage only one of the two. Only a few hundred were built, which is why it mostly ended up with staffs and higher headquarters. The long folding roof was not a comfort feature; it made it possible to observe standing up from inside the car.

On the tabletop

The Type 87 staff car takes your officers to the front in Bolt Action, protected from the weather and capable off-road. In the rules it can be fielded as a transport via the Kübelwagen profile in Armies of Germany, or you treat it as a civilian car using the general transport section of the third edition rulebook. Use it to move a small squad or team quickly across the table. As only a few hundred were built, it mostly served with staffs and higher headquarters.
