Product details

Background & context

Between 1808 and 1814 the Peninsular War tied down hundreds of thousands of French soldiers in Spain and Portugal for years. Alongside the regular battles raged a guerrilla war in which both sides abandoned every rule. Napoleon himself later called the conflict his Spanish ulcer. Troops who served there for long came back ragged, mistrustful and brutalised, and it is exactly this breed of men that the figures depict.

On the tabletop

The figures around Chef de bataillon de Rochebaron represent the notorious Butchers of the 73rd Line Regiment in the Peninsular War. In Black Powder you can field them as the command of a French unit in Spain and Portugal, or use them as a group of their own in smaller scenarios. For an action such as the one at Grijo against an English battalion, they give you the French leading character and his followers. Fifi, the regimental poodle, comes along as mascot.
