    Product details

    Background & context

Jean-Baptiste de Gribeauval standardised the French artillery even before the Revolution: uniform barrels, interchangeable carriages, lighter limbers. Napoleon, an artilleryman himself, built on that his tactic of massed batteries, which wore an enemy line down with fire before columns and cavalry finished the job. Until 1812 the system remained the backbone of the field artillery, even though newer barrels had long since been introduced alongside it.

    On the tabletop

This set shows French foot artillery of the Gribeauval system between 1804 and 1812. During assembly you decide between the 8-pounder and the heavier 12-pounder. Depending on the head, the 15 gunners wear the bicorne of the years up to 1806, the shako of the line artillery or the bearskin of the Guard foot artillery. On the table you group several guns into a grand battery that pounds an enemy line before your columns and cavalry move forward.
