Product details

Background & context

Almost every French village had an épicerie, a small shop for food and everyday goods, often with living quarters upstairs. Under German occupation from 1940, food, clothing and fuel were rationed and only issued against ration cards. Long queues formed outside the shops, and in the countryside bartering with farmers was often the only way out. After the liberation in 1944 rationing remained in force for several more years.

On the tabletop

Put the shop on the main street of a village, ideally on a corner, as it has shop windows on two sides. From the upper floor your riflemen cover the street in both directions. The awnings over the windows give the place the feel of a busy village centre at once. Next to Maison Celeste and Maison Amelie it forms a short row of houses for games on the Western Front.
