A two-storey village house in 3 mm MDF and greyboard with a front that is half brick. Roof and upper floor lift off, so you can occupy both levels and the windows with your soldiers.

Background & context

In May 1940 German armoured forces pushed through the Ardennes to the Channel coast and cut off the Allied armies in Belgium. During the retreat to Dunkirk, British and French units defended villages in Flanders and Artois to buy time. The houses there were often built of red brick, with tiled roofs and small gardens. By early June more than 300,000 soldiers had been brought across the Channel to England.

On the tabletop

Place Maison Amelie on a village street where the upper storey gives a wide view over gardens and fields. Lift off roof and upper floor and spread a squad across both levels. Behind the half-brick front, defenders can hold out for a long time even under fire. The house suits rearguard actions in France in 1940 just as well as the liberation in 1944.
