Product details

Background & context

Hand and horse carts remained the usual way to move harvest, timber and market goods in the countryside until well into the 20th century. Napoleonic armies requisitioned such vehicles in large numbers for their supply trains. In the spring of 1940, millions of refugees took to the roads of France and Belgium with carts, and in 1944 wagons and carts were still an everyday sight in many villages.

On the tabletop

Park the cart in the village street or by a market square, where it narrows the open route. Set across an alley, it serves as a makeshift roadblock in a fight for a village. Left abandoned at the roadside, it recalls refugees who fled ahead of the fighting. In play it counts as decoration and you can move it without fuss.
