    Product details

    Background & context

Viking armies consisted of free warriors, retainers, and better-equipped fighters who gathered for raids, settlement wars, or major campaigns, depending on the occasion. Spears, axes, swords, and shields characterized their fighting style, while the shield wall played a central tactical role. The variety of equipment options allows for depictions ranging from simple Bondi to experienced Hirdmen. Thus, the set covers a broad spectrum of Viking Age warrior culture.

    On the tabletop

Sixty Vikings give you several units for the shield wall in which the battles of the Viking Age were decided. The twelve command figures in mail lead with horns and standards, and among the 48 warriors are 24 in mail, six in padded armour and 18 without armour. You hand the two-handed axes to the best fighters in the second rank. That lets you field the Great Heathen Army in England or Harald Hardrada's men at Stamford Bridge.
