    Background & context

    Viking warbands were mobile groups of warriors who carried out raids, settlement conflicts, and power struggles in the Norse world. Armored elite warriors and unarmored Bondi could fight together in the shield wall, while archers or slingers supported the formation. Command elements such as warlords and standard bearers gave the group a clear center. The set is particularly well-suited for narrative scenarios involving raids and the defense of settlements.

    On the tabletop

    There are 12 armoured and 12 unarmoured Vikings in the box, and that dictates the deployment: the armoured ones stand as a retinue around the warlord, while the unarmoured ones form a second, lighter unit that takes over a flank. Besides the warlord and standard bearers, the 6 command figures provide the berserkers, which you place in front of the line as a small assault group so that they are the first to charge into the enemy. The 6 archers or slingers stay back and pick off targets at the edges. Hail Caesar players use the box as the start of a larger Viking army; in SAGA and Pillage it is enough for the first game.
